Part 2 The windows

Part 2 is a detailed examination of all of the windows of both Pearson’s 19th-century Cathedral and the adjoining 16th-century St Mary’s Aisle. It also includes the windows that were part of the 1887 Master Scheme but which, for various reasons, were not eventually inserted.

The windows are grouped into the themed sequences of the 1887 Master Scheme, and are in the form of a recommended route, so that the interrelationships between the windows in each part of the Scheme can be explored. The main artistic features and iconography of each window are described, together with an interpretation of its theological content and a comment on the architectural and liturgical context of the window, where appropriate.
