To the honoured memory of Colonel Walter Raleigh Gilbert, C.B., born , died . By his friends who love and revere him
In the centre is Christ in Majesty surrounded by angels, archangels and cherubs and, in the words of the Te Deum, the glorious company of the Apostles, the goodly fellowship of the Prophets, the noble army of Martyrs and the holy Church throughout all the world.
Contemporary reports of the insertion (note 2) give the inscription as above, whereas the
inscription now begins Given in memory of …
.
The current words are in a different font, and in glass of a different colour,
(see base of 1a, below) so may
result from a repair.
Tracery. At the top is the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) with angels in adoration on either side. Below them are two pairs of angels playing musical instruments (psaltery, dulcimer and woodwind, viol).
