A. In the tracery is an angel, depicted as a child, above a Pelican in her piety. The angel/child’s face and hair style are similar to those of John the Baptist as a child in 2b and 1a, and might be likenesses of the dedicatee’s son, John St Aubyn, 2nd Baron St Levan, as a child.
2a. The figure of Charity, with St Michael’s Mount in the background. This scene probably alludes to the charitable works for which the dedicatee was reknowned (with her pet dog beside her) and also to the classic depiction of the Blessed Virgin Mary and infant Jesus.
2b. Elizabeth with John the Baptist as a child.
1a. Elizabeth teaching John the Baptist to read.
1b. The Annunciation to the priest Zacharias, foretelling the birth of his son John the Baptist.
