David rex et propheta (David king and prophet)

In the centre is David, crowned and playing a harp. On the left is a scroll, perhaps of music or a reference to the book of Psalms, some of which may have been written by him. On the right is a sling with a stone in it, a reference to his victory over Goliath (Ⅰ Samuel 17:50).
